This Naniwa levelling stone is recommended for repairing sharpening stones that have been damaged by use. Indeed, over time, sharpening stones tend to become hollow, making them difficult to use. That's why a levelling stone is an indispensable accessory! It allows you to use your favorite whetstone for a long time to come.
This Naniwa stonehas a 220 grit, which is very abrasive. You'll feel it when you touch it: its surface is very rough.
It is used like a standard composite stone, i.e. it must be soaked in water for at least 10 minutes before use, just like the stone to be reworked.
Simply place it face down on the stone to be resurfaced, then work back and forth, gradually filing the stone underneath. It's important to note that, due to its high abrasive power, it may leave small marks on your stone (this is a normal process since, after all, its purpose is to file the stone). To remove these marks, simply use the smooth side of the levelling stone on your whetstone.
You can also use it on a ceramic stone, but you'll see that you'll probably need it less, as ceramic stone is very hard and therefore takes longer to dig in.
Finally, once you've finished using it, you can leave it to air-dry (without putting it in the sun). Practical and easy to use, it will have a place of choice in your maintenance equipment.
