Opt for a Mediterranean-style knife with theOpinel N°6 Tradition Luxe in olive wood!
Made in France, this Opinel is designed with the greatest respect for family tradition. Joseph Opinel created his first knife in Savoie in 1890, and today the brand is renowned for its century-long experience.
With its traditional shape, high-performance blade and noble wooden handle, the Opinel N°6 knife is a true reflection of the brand.
The blade
This folding knife has a 7cm blade in Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel. This is a Swedish steel specially developed for Opinel to deliver a highly effective cutting edge.
The blade reaches a hardness of 57-58 HRC on the Rockwell scale for easy daily maintenance. Stainless steel makes the blade resistant to corrosion and abrasion.
During the manufacturing process, the blade undergoes a 2-phase heat treatment:
- Tempering: the blade is heated to a high temperature (over 800°C), then rapidly cooled.
- Tempering: the blade is again heated, but cooled much more slowly.
The blade is sharpened at an angle of 40° to ensure that its edge does not wear out too quickly, but remains effective for a long time. The sharpening is done entirely by hand, and the Opinel logo is engraved on the blade for true proof of authenticity.
The blade has the traditional Opinel Yatagan shape. This shape is inspired by a Turkish saber and has a raised tip. It is ground to an exclusive convex profile, giving it a very robust edge for efficient resharpening.
The ferrule
Opinel knives have a very special ferrule. Not only does it act as the junction between the blade and the handle, but it also serves to lock the blade for high safety with the Virobloc® system. The rotating ferrule locks the blade in the position of your choice (open or closed) and prevents it from moving. This prevents you from cutting yourself when you use your knife, or when you're looking for it in your backpack or kitchen drawer.
The handle
This Opinel N°6 features a 9cm olive wood handle. This Mediterranean wood is pleasant to the touch and beautifully polished. It's also a very visual wood, with a hue ranging from golden yellow to orange, and a dense, sinuous grain: each handle has a unique appearance.
All in all, this knife is ideal for all lovers of fine knives and hikers, slipping easily into a pocket, backpack or picnic bag for nature outings. For everyday use, this Opinel is a chic, high-performance table knife that fits in with any décor!
