This 100% forged OpinelBread knife has been specifically designed, as its name suggests, to slice all types of bread with ease, as well as hard fruit skins and leftovers from roasts or chicken.
Its 21cm stainless steel blade is curved and toothed, both of which contribute greatly to making bread slicing a breeze even when you're dealing with thick-crusted loaves.
The curved blade is an asset in that it gives you the possibility of imparting a rocking motion when cutting, while protecting the phalanges better than a knife with a straight blade. The steel composition used to design this blade is X50CrMoV15, very common in Western cutlery, as it confers a high-performance, long-lasting cutting edge that stands up very well to sharpening over time.
In addition, the high-temperature forging method in a single piece of metal (blade, Bolster and handle) gives the knife excellent balance and fibering (more even distribution of steel components). This gives the knife a hardness of 56/57 Rockwell HRC, which ensures the utensil's solidity.
Opinel chooses to sharpen its knives by hand, using state-of-the-art grinding machines to give a combined angle of 30°, thus greatly optimizing cutting power.
The handle is one of the most successful features of this Opinel Bread knife. It's made from stabilized beech wood, with marked dark veins? giving it a unique aesthetic. Its ergonomic design features ergo-profile technology, which gives it a curved shape to prevent twisting during prolonged use. What's more, the handle also features the V-grip system, designed to facilitate the famous pincer grip of the blade that chefs adopt when making multiple cuts.
For maintenance, we recommend gentle hand-washing in lukewarm water and neutral soap. Then wipe the knife with a soft cloth and store in a dry place.
