Since 1948, the Kanetsune Seki brand has been renowned for the manufacture of Japanese cutting objects. Once again, it demonstrates its expertise with its range of legendary Higonokami pocket knives.
The blade of this folding knife benefits from the famous forging process once used to make samurai katanas. The core of the blade, which ensures the strength of the cutting edge, is made of high-carbon SK-5 steel. It is then enveloped on both sides by a layer of more flexible steel for greater corrosion resistance.
This outdoor knife features aChikiri opening mechanism, Japanese for the lens on the back of the blade. This protrusion acts as a lever to deploy the knife blade with ease.
Finally, the strength of this Japanese knife also comes from its handle, crafted from black steel in a patinated style that gives it a nice retro touch. Slightly gilded engravings in Japanese characters add further authenticity. The eyelet at the end of the handle lets you thread a string to hang your Higonokami so you don't lose it.
As carbon is oxidizable, the knife should be washed by hand and wiped dry with a soft cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher or soak it. It's important to note that, despite careful care, a carbon knife may change color slightly over time - this is perfectly normal.
