This traditional Japanese pocket knife is made by the renowned Kanetsune Seki brand, founded in 1964 in Seki city, famous as the cutlery capital of Japan.
The blade of this Higonokami is made of dark carbon steel. It is called San Mai, which means that the blade is composed of 3 layers, a very hard one in the center that guarantees a solid edge, and another one around it, made of softer steel that sandwiches the core. This gives the blade a slight flexibility.
The blade's opening and closing system depends on the "Chikiri" lens located at the top of the handle. This serves as a lever for easy handling of the knife.
The handle of this Japanese folding knife is crafted in black steel. The beautiful gilded engraving in Japanese characters is in keeping with the local cutlery tradition (where the blacksmith affixes his signature). The handle also features an eyelet for slipping a lanyard.
As carbon is oxidizable, the knife should be washed by hand and wiped directly with a soft cloth. It should not be put in the dishwasher or soaked. It's important to note that, despite careful care, a carbon knife may change color slightly over time - this is perfectly normal.
