The Higonokami pocket knife was created at the end of the 19th century in Japan, where it quickly became very popular. Its small size allows you to take it everywhere, and its efficiency makes it extremely useful for all kinds of cutting (food, rope, fabric...).
The Higonokami KIRI model is a mini pocket knife: about ten centimeters long and 2mm thick, it fits perfectly into a small trouser pocket or backpack compartment.
Its blade is made of Japanese Blue Steel, developed by Hitachi steelworks (a renowned manufacturer in Japan and around the world). This top-of-the-range steel is highly enriched with carbon (1.2%), making it extremely hard and therefore extremely sharp. In fact, because of this hardness (around 62 HRC on the Rockwell scale), the knife can be sharpened in depth, and will hold its edge longer than standard stainless steels.
Beware, however, as the blade is highly enriched with carbon, making it more susceptible to corrosion. We recommend washing by hand. Wipe dry immediately after washing to avoid contact with moisture. It's important to note that despite very good care, the color of the blade may vary slightly over time. This is a normal process resulting from long-term use (steel in contact with ambient air whose humidity level may vary, or due to the acidity of food, etc.). You can oil steel from time to time with mineral oil to protect it.
The blade is then clamped in a small, cream-colored brass plate. It's thanks to this disconcertingly simple system that the knife is so thin and light. What's more, brass is corrosion-resistant and easy to wash.
Finally, the knife features a protective sheath that covers the blade for easy transport and storage.
So don't hesitate to opt for this high-performance, easy-to-carry Higonokami Japanese knife, which will follow you on all your adventures! You can also discover all the Japanese kitchen knives selected by Knifeleader!
