The Japanese King F-3 Super Finish 4000-grit whetstone is medium-sized for maximum convenience.
King whetstones are made in Osaka, Japan.
Its #4000 grit is considered fine, making it a finishing stone. Thanks to its softness, it is suitable for most European and Japanese steels. Your cutting edge is well polished for even finer, smoother cutting! However, it is still recommended for high HRC steels, as steels that are too "soft" will not be able to withstand such a finish.
Its base makes it easy to use.
How do I use it?
Soak the stone in water for 10 minutes before use.
Remove the stone from the water. With the hand holding the handle, place your thumb and forefinger on the blade for stability, and the three fingers of the other hand (forefinger, middle finger and ring finger) on the blade near the edge to distribute the pressure evenly. The angle between the back of the blade and the stone should be about 15 degrees, the equivalent of a coin.
Keeping the cutting edge towards you, push the knife against the stone, applying more pressure than when you bring it towards you. Keep the knife at an angle of between 15 and 20 degrees, moving back and forth.
Take care to keep the stone wet at all times during sharpening. Clean the cutting edge frequently.
To find out if the knife is sharp enough, turn it over and test it with your finger. If it feels rough, you can switch to the other side (but don't cut yourself!).
For the other side, it's the other way round: you need to apply more pressure by bringing the knife towards you.
Take care of your knives with the King Japanese sharpening stone.
