The blade
This Opinel features an 8.5cm blade in Sandvik 12C27M stainless steel. This is a steel specially modified for Opinel: it contains 14.5% chromium, making it highly resistant to corrosion. It also achieves a hardness of 57/58 HRC for easy daily maintenance.
The shape of the Yatagan blade is inspired by a Turkish saber: the point is raised and ground to an exclusive curved profile, making the cutting edge highly resistant. The blade is hand-sharpened to an angle of around 40°, enabling efficient resharpening.
The ferrule
The Opinel's ferrule locks the blade for totally safe use. When the blade is open, the ferrule prevents it from closing on your fingers, and when closed, the ferrule prevents it from opening. So if you're groping for the knife in your backpack, you won't risk injury.
The handle
The handle of this knife is made of hornbeam wood from French forests. This white wood is hard and easy to work with, and is perfect for staining as it has little grain. The water-based stain is applied with a glaze, then varnished to protect it from humidity and dirt. Its garnet color adds a colorful, elegant touch to your outings! A small leather lace at the end of the handle lets you hang it from a carabiner or directly from your backpack.
