Shapton is renowned for its high-quality Japanese stones. The stones are long-lasting and highly effective, and are available in several ranges to suit all your needs.
They are known to have a very slow wear rate. It's because of this and their performance that Shapton stones are highly appreciated by professionals in the catering trade. These hard stones are more suited to expert sharpeners than to novices. Note, however, that their hardness is a real advantage when it comes to longevity: as mentioned above, the harder a stone is, the less quickly it wears out.
Glass Stone is a range of stones with different grains. Complementing each other, they enable you to work with precision and achieve a perfect edge finish on your knives. All you need to do is adapt the grain to the condition of your knives!
Note that this stone is much finer than conventional sharpening stones. It has an abrasive part made of aluminum oxide particles, which rests on a thin plate of tempered glass. This prevents the stone from deforming despite repeated use, and keeps it very flat. This is a great advantage, as the stone retains its original shape while you sharpen.
With its 10,000 grit (1.47 microns), the stone is recommended for obtaining a razor-sharp polish on very high HRC alloys (over 63). Perfectly suited to hard alloys such as Blue Paper Steel, it is by no means suitable for low or medium HRC.
Shapton's Glass Stone range offers so-called Splash & Go stones: to use them, you don't need to put them through a pre-soaking phase, as is the case with conventional sharpening stones. Simply moisten and they're ready to go! These are time-saving stones.
Thanks to the highly homogeneous structure of the aluminum oxide particles, your Glass Stone provides even sharpening of your blades. The result is a clean job in no time!
For ease of use, we recommend that you add a suitable support to the stone to give it greater stability.
