This affects the efficiency of the stone, which loses its abrasive power if clogged.
By using the Shapton cleaning disc, you thoroughly clean the surface of your stone. In fact, you can use both sides of the disc: whether smooth or grooved, you're sure to get the job done. This disc, made of white alumina, can also be used as a dressing stone, but only superficially, as it won't have the right size and grain to dig deep into a stone (use the grooved side instead).
