The famous shapton kuromaku stones come in a range of grits to give your blades a complete finish, whether you need to start with a thick grit for a dull surface or simply use a very fine grit for a razor-sharp finish.
Kuromaku stone is the thickest stone produced by Shapton. It is approximately 1.5cm thick and made of ceramic. The abrasive particles it contains are evenly distributed across its surface. This guarantees perfect, rapid sharpening of your blades. What's more, ceramic is a very hard material, which means it wears less quickly, despite repeated use.
It is a stone much appreciated by professionals for its strength and efficiency. It is particularly suited to intensive use.
It has a 5000 grit: this is very high and enables the cutting edge of your blades to be polished to perfection. A stone with this grain can be used as a finishing stone for knives with medium to high HRC, or it can be used regularly on so-called very hard knives, before they lose too much of their sharpness. In this way, you can maintain your knives without removing too much material, while maintaining exceptional cutting performance.
Every kuromaku shapton stone is Splash & Go. It is therefore important not to immerse it. Simply dampen it just before use.
Note that the stone is delivered in a protective box. Not only does this protect the stone, it also makes a perfect base. With its non-slip rubber feet, it helps keep the stone stable. With its grooved surface, it allows good ventilation of the stone, even when stored.
In any case, leave it to dry in the open air, without putting it near a heat source that could crack it.
This Japanese brand offers you top-of-the-range sharpening stones renowned for their durability and performance. To suit your precise needs, several ranges of stones are available, such as the Glass Stone range, or the one presented here, the Kuromaku.
These excellent stones have a lower wear capacity, and are much appreciated by restoration professionals.
