Shapton is a Japanese brand offering top-of-the-range sharpening stones renowned for their excellent hold and performance. The stones are available in several ranges, such as the Kuromaku range, to suit your specific needs.
These high-performance stones are reputed to wear very slowly, making them highly appreciated by professionals in the food industry.
Shapton's famous Kuromaku stones come in a variety of grits, so you can achieve a perfect finish to the edge of your blades. Whether you need a thick grain to straighten an edge, or a finer grain to polish it, the Kuromaku range has everything you need.
Kuromaku stones are the thickest stones manufactured by Shapton. At around 1.5cm thick, they are made of ceramic. They have abrasive particles evenly distributed across their surface to ensure rapid sharpening. What's more, ceramic is a very hard material, so your stones will last a long time as they wear more slowly.
The stone presented here has a versatile 2000 grit: a medium-high grit that, on a daily basis, enables you to regain the edge of blades between 56 and 59 HRC. This grit can also be used as a sharpening level for blades with a higher hardness. Finally, if your knife has an average hardness of less than 56 HRC, use this stone to obtain a razor-sharp polish.
Each Kuromaku stone is a Splash & Go stone: this means you don't need to immerse it to prepare it, but simply moisten it.
The stone comes with its own protective box, which not only serves this purpose: you can also use it as a stand to elevate and stabilize the stone. The box is fitted with non-slip rubber feet. Its grooved surface also ensures good ventilation of the stone, even when stored.
Note that the stone should be allowed to air-dry before being stored. Don't place it near a heat source, as this will cause the stone to crack.
