Italian manufacturer Artelegno has been in business for over half a century. The factory is located in the heart of nature, in a small mountain village in Lombardy, where two generations of Fazzini are at the helm.

Artelegno empty blocks are made by skilled craftsmen, whose aim is to bring the product to life, preserving all the beauty of the wood in the final piece (as opposed to a machined, assembly-line process). Each block requires several stages of shaping, with numerous checks to ensure a perfect finish.

Artelegno is also attentive to the protection of nature: the materials chosen come from forests where environmental sustainability is emphasized, and the factory complies with strict environmental standards to reduce its impact on the environment. For example, the company's underfloor heating system is divided into several sections, each powered by a biomass boiler. Production waste (wood or wood dust) is then transformed into energy, which in turn is used to power the room where the wood is dried.

This block is made from walnut wood, a heavy, resistant species with a unique grain. Often considered top-of-the-range, walnut has a very chic appearance with lots of character. Its dark color suits all kitchen styles.

It's considered universal because it has no narrow slots where you have to insert the blades inside. In fact, all you have to do is place them delicately on the surface of the block so that they are attracted by the magnet and held in place. The knives are thus perfectly positioned, with no risk of falling out.
