Laguiole knives are astonishing in terms of quality, design and tradition. In addition to being a name, Laguiole is a remarkable expertise! This name is borne by passionate professionals, and 100% French! At a time of ever-increasing global competition, even in cutlery, Forge de Laguiole has chosen to develop and produce its knife ranges in the heart of Aveyron.
All Forge de Laguiole knives are recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which just goes to show how deeply rooted the Aveyron cutlery tradition is in the region! In 2007, Forge Laguiole was awarded the"Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" (Living Heritage Company) label, thanks to its craftsmen who continue to use ancestral and regional production techniques.
This Lou Bure butter knife designed by Stéphane Rambaud is proof of this!
The blade is made from French T12 semi-stainless steel, a hot-rolled steel that offers a good alternative between carbon steel and all-stainless steel. In fact, this steel has a good balance between carbon and chromium, and its very fine grain structure guarantees excellent cutting quality, a long-lasting blade edge, good resistance to oxidation and easy sharpening and polishing. Its hardness is 54/56 HRC on the Rockwell scale, making it easy to sharpen.
The handle is made of horn, a natural material widely used in the manufacture of table and pocket knives. Rich in keratin, horn becomes hard and impermeable when worked, ensuring long life. Its dark, almost black color contrasts perfectly with the stainless steel blade and base.
The knife's design was imagined by Stéphane Rambaud, and its particularity lies in the fact that it stands upright on the table. It's an elegant and perfectly original piece! The knife is called Lou Bure, meaning butter in Occitan.
The knife won the Prix Gourmet at the IWA trade show in Nuremberg in 2008.
