The manufacture of traditional Higonokami pocket knives has been one of Kanetsune 's core activities since 1964. Thanks to its remarkable know-how, the company has become one of the world's leading players in Japanese cutlery.
The Higonokami is a type of folding knife that was all the rage in Japan in the 60s, so functional and high-performance was it. It could be found in every schoolboy's satchel and every worker's office bag. So it's safe to say that it's an integral part of Japanese knife culture.
The"San Mai 3 layers" blade is fashioned primarily fromJapanese Super Blue Steel Core alloy. This is a high-end steel with a high carbon content and particles of chromium, tungsten and molybdenum. The result is a high-performance cutting edge with good holding power. This core is surrounded by a layer of softer steel.
The blade is deployed by exerting pressure on the protrusion (called "Chikiri" in Japanese) at its dorsal end.
In addition, the flat handle is made entirely of solid gold-plated brass, making the knife even more robust. Japanese engravings are also featured for authentic decoration.
As carbon is oxidizable, the knife should be washed by hand and wiped directly with a soft cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher or soak it. It's important to note that, despite careful care, a carbon knife may change color slightly over time - this is perfectly normal.
