The Higonokami folding knife has been renowned throughout Japan for decades. In France we have the famous Opinel, while in Japan it's the Higonokami.
The blade of this Higonokami folding knife is made of "San Mai" steel, i.e. 3 superimposed layers of steel.
The blade core is very hard, made of carbon steel. This hardness results in an excellent cutting edge, which can be sharpened extensively, and will hold its edge longer.
The core is then covered with a layer of mild steel, which protects it. This increases the flexibility of the blade, making it less brittle. The surface of the blade is engraved with Japanese characters, for even greater authenticity.
Important: carbon blades are sensitive to corrosion. It should therefore be hand-washed and wiped dry immediately after use. Please note that the color of the blade may change slightly over time. This is a normal process resulting from use (acidity of food, contact with ambient air with varying humidity, etc.). To prevent this, oil the blade from time to time with mineral oil.
The handle is fitted with a Piedmontese: a piece of steel located on the top of the handle. To open the knife, you need to apply pressure to this piece of steel to draw out the blade. The Higonokami knife has no forced notch to lock the blade in the open position.
The handle is made of brass and painted gold. It is hollow, making the knife extremely light. It has a hole at the end for a shoelace, making the knife easier to handle.
Last but not least, its sleek, golden design and the engraving along the handle lend authenticity and elegance to this Japanese knife.
Knife lovers everywhere will appreciate the charm and efficiency of this Higonokami knife! If you'd like to discover our other models of folding Japanese knives, click here!
