This is a typically Japanese damascus blade. This technique consists of manufacturing a rigid steel core, which is then covered with several layers of softer steel to protect the core and create an optimal balance. The top layers add suppleness to your blade, making it less brittle.
The core of this blade is made ofAUS10 steel. This is a Japanese alloy considered to be the most high-end in the AUS family! It is enriched with 1.05% carbon, the essential element for increasing the hardness of an alloy, since high hardness ensures easy preservation of the cutting edge.
On the Rockwell scale, the hardness of this Japanese knife is 60HRC: proof that your blade has a high-performance, long-lasting cutting edge.
This alloy is also composed of nickel, manganese, vanadium and silicon: all these components improve the balance of hardness to make the blade less brittle during use. It is a high-quality steel with good resistance to wear and corrosion.
This core is then covered with several superimposed layers of nickel-enriched steel to add suppleness to your knife. Damascus also has an aesthetic aspect that you can observe all over the blade: you can see the alternating layers of steel.
In fact, this range of Wusaki knives features a unique damascus pattern: the different layers follow one another in a round shape, as if a drop of water had fallen into the center of the blade and spread out in waves.
The handle of your knife is made of oak, a species known for its durability. It's also resistant to moisture, shock and vibration, so it won't warp. It is finished with a light black lacquer to darken the natural oak color.
With its octagonal shape, this traditional knife adapts to the hands of all cooks, whether right- or left-handed. Its ergonomic shape provides a comfortable grip for optimal handling, especially during prolonged use.
To prevent food or water from seeping in where the blade joins the handle, a binder has been added to make it watertight.
To care for your knife, we recommend hand-washing only with a sponge and mild detergent. Wipe dry immediately after washing and store in a dry place. Even though your knife is stainless, it contains carbon, which is oxidizable. To best preserve the oak, avoid getting the handle wet.
