The Higonokami folding knife is legendary in Japan, much like theOpinel in France.
The blade of this Higonokami folding knife features 3 superimposed layers of steel, known asSan Mai steel.
Carbon steel is used in the core. This very hard steel produces an excellent cutting edge, which it retains for a long time, and can be sharpened extensively if required to achieve unrivalled cutting power.
This core is then covered with a softer, more flexible layer designed to protect the core. The blade will be less brittle and more resistant to corrosion. The surface of the blade is engraved with Japanese characters, adding a touch of authenticity.
Important: carbon blades are sensitive to corrosion. It should therefore be hand-washed and wiped dry immediately after use. Note that the color of the blade may change slightly over time. This is a normal process resulting from use (acidity of food, contact with ambient air with varying humidity, etc.). To prevent this, oil the blade from time to time with mineral oil.
The 10cm handle has no locking system, so the blade opens and closes without the need for a detent. The knife is equipped with a Piedmont system: a piece of steel on the top of the handle opens the knife: pressure on this part causes the blade to extend from the handle.
The handle of this Higonokami knife is made of brass with a brown paint finish. The brass is folded (so the inside is hollow), making the knife extremely light. It has a hole at the end that makes the knife easier to handle if a cord is added.
