The Samura Blacksmith knife lets you feel at ease in your everyday cutting. It's easy to use and visually pleasing: a good choice for regular use.
This Samura set contains :
- 1 Universal knife 16cm: perfect for cutting medium-sized fruit and vegetables. You can also use it to chop meat (without hard parts like bones). It's easy to handle, so you can be versatile and perform precise gestures.
- 1 nakiri knife 17cm nakiri knife: this is a Japanese-style knife. Its wide rectangular blade is ideal for cutting vegetables. You'll be able to make fast, precise gestures. Once you've finished cutting, you can use its cutting surface as a small "scoop" to move the cut pieces from one container to another.
- 1 18cm santoku knife: this is a versatile knife, the equivalent of the Western chef's knife, but in Japanese form. Its slightly curved blade creates a natural rocking motion when cutting, facilitating the cutting motion. It's ideal for cutting herbs such as mint and coriander.
These Samura knives are designed in China by a team of cutlery experts! Indeed, one of China's southern provinces has been famous for knife-making for 1500 years.
Blade :
Each of these knives features an AUS-8 stainless steel blade, with 0.8% carbon and 14.5% chromium. The former has a direct impact on the alloy's rigidity, while the latter is essential for oxidation resistance. The result is a high-performance, easy-to-maintain alloy. The blade hardness is 59/60 HRC. This is a good indicator that the knife will keep its edge longer than a knife with less carbon, and that it is still easy to maintain when you feel it starting to lose its effectiveness.
The cutting edge of these knives is beveled, with symmetrical sharpening. The edge is hand-finished on a 5000 grit stone. You'll feel the efficiency of the 3 pieces from the first use.
Handle:
The handle is made of micarta, a tough, long-lasting composite material. Made of 40% resin and 60% linen, it is durable and resistant to temperature variations: it can withstand heat of up to 150°C, for example. It is also highly resistant to moisture.
Its oval shape makes it suitable for right- and left-handed use. Its black color contrasts well with the metal ferrule and the rest of the blade. The final look of the knives is clean and timeless. They will appeal to all cooks.
Storage and care :
The knives are delivered in a decorated box, in which they are wrapped in a beautiful pouch woven with Koi carp motifs, creating a beautiful Japanese spirit. The perfect gift box for a chef! Or to treat yourself!
To best care for your knives, wash them by hand (in lukewarm water, with a non-abrasive sponge), then wipe dry with a soft cloth before storing away from moisture.
