The famous Kuromaku Shapton is available in a range of grits to give your blades a complete edge finish, whether you need a thick grit for a dull blade or a fine grit to give it a razor-sharp finish.
Kuromaku is Shapton's thickest stone. It measures almost 1.5cm thick and is made of ceramic. Its abrasive particles are evenly distributed across its surface, guaranteeing perfect, rapid sharpening of your blades. What's more, ceramic is a very hard material that wears less quickly despite repeated use.
This stone is highly appreciated by professionals in the food industry for its efficiency and durability. It is particularly suited to intensive use.
It has a 120 grit: a very thick grit that removes a lot of material from chipped blades that no longer cut. This stone is suitable both for hard steels with high HRC and for knives with a slightly lower HRC that need straightening.
All Kuromaku stones are Splash & Go stones: you don't need to immerse them to prepare them. Simply moisten them before use.
The stone comes in a protective box. Note that the box doesn't just protect the stone: you can also use it as a stand. In fact, its non-slip rubber feet make the stone very stable during use. The box's grooved surface ensures good ventilation of the stone, even when stored.
Be sure to let the stone air-dry without placing it next to a heat source, as this may cause it to crack.
Shapton offers you high-quality stones that are renowned for their performance and excellent durability over time. Several ranges of stones are available, such as the Kuromaku range or the Glass Stone range, to suit your precise needs.
These are excellent stones, much appreciated by restoration professionals, and benefit from a lower wear capacity.
Many Japanese sharpening stones are available on our site!
