Naniwa Japanese stones are top-of-the-range stones renowned for their effectiveness and durability. They are available in several ranges to suit your sharpening needs.
Professionals are fans of the brand. In fact, the Super Stone Naniwa range is recommended for seasoned users. These stones are a little softer than, say, those in the Professional range, so it's easier to get the blade "in" when moving back and forth, at the risk of damaging your knife.
The naniwa super stone range features a whole series of stones with different grits. You can equip yourself with one or more of them, as they complement each other.
This stone is extremely fine, measuring just one centimetre in height. However, its composition means that it will wear less quickly, so it will last longer. It has a high concentration of abrasive particles, enabling you to sharpen your kitchen knives quickly. The binder used by Naniwa to agglomerate the composite material of which it is made is directly created by the brand: it is synthetic resin. Its recognized quality makes the stone more resistant, particularly to chipping.
Its 220 grit makes it particularly effective on dull blades. It will clean your damaged blades to restore their morfil (which you can then polish using higher grit stones).
The stones in the naniwa super stone range are Splash & Go: this means they don't need to be immersed in water like standard water stones. Simply moisten the surface before use and you're ready to go. So you save time.
Once you've finished using it, however, you need to brush it clean of accumulated steel waste, then leave it to dry out completely before storing it in a dry place too. To do this, leave it in the open air, and don't put it near a source of heat, which could cause it to crack.
For ease of use, we recommend a suitable support to stabilize the stone.
