This Suehiro stone has a 280 grain, so its surface is very abrasive. You'll feel it when you touch it: it's rough under your finger.
It is used like a standard composite stone, i.e. it must be soaked in water for a few minutes before use, just like the stone about to be reworked.
How to use my stone :
Place the grooved side against the stone to be resurfaced, then work back and forth, gradually filing down your main stone. It's important to note that, due to its high abrasive power, it may leave small marks on your stone (this is a normal process since, after all, its purpose is to file). To remove them, simply use the smooth side of the dressing stone on your whetstone, and you're done!
Its dimensions make it easy to use on standard stones, so you won't need to make any great movements or exertions for it to be effective.
Throughout the sharpening process, you'll need to keep a small container of water handy, so you can apply it to the stones in small dabs, to facilitate the movement.
Once you've finished using it, you can leave it to air-dry (without putting it in direct sunlight).
Suehiro specializes in the manufacture of whetstones and accessories. The company is based in Niigata province, Japan. With this levelling stone, Suehiro provides you with a very useful tool for re-sharpening your whetstones when they've been badly used!
In fact, over time, sharpening stones tend to become hollow, making them difficult to use and even damaging your knives during the sharpening process. That's why a flattening stone is an indispensable accessory for anyone who uses whetstones! It ensures that you can continue to use your favorite stone for a long time to come, and thus keep your knives sharp.
