This Japanese Tamahagane finishing stone will help you regain your razor-sharp edge!
It will be effective as a complement to a stone with a slightly thicker grit for finishing the sharpening of your kitchen knife. For example, for a 61°HRC blade, we recommend using a 3000 grit stone for the first stage of sharpening, then continuing with a very fine 6000 grit stone to refine the edge as much as possible. This very grit stone will enable you to exploit the full potential of your Japanese knife (or Western) knife.
If you don't finish with the grit stone, you run the risk of not achieving optimum sharpness, which is why it's often referred to as a finishing stone.
This Tamahagane finishing stone can sharpen the hardest steels with a high carbon content, but is not recommended for steels below 60° HRC.
This stone is particularly recommended for VG5, VG10, Blue steel and White steel. Knife brands such as Tamahagane, Tadafuda, Jikko, Kai and many others use this type of steel.
If the blade of your knife is too dull, first sharpen it with a grit stone, then polish the cutting edge with the Tamahagane 6000 stone.
