The Suehiro Shiramine 6000 JapaneseSharpening stone is a popular finishing stone. Its smaller size than its professional counterpart makes it useful in a domestic context.
Its #6000 grit is very fine, so it is recommended for polishing the edge of your blades and revealing razor-sharp cutting ability.
Suitable for kitchen knives, it can also be used on scissors, small DIY tools, folding knives...
Using the stone :
Soak the stone in water for 5 to 10 minutes before use. You can reapply water to its surface during sharpening, when you feel it's necessary. You can do this with your hand, or with a pipette for greater precision.
After a few moments' use, you'll notice a colored sludge forming on the surface of the stone, and this is perfectly normal. This "sludge" is even essential, as it helps to sharpen the knife, so don't clean it during the process. A small Nagura stone (approx. 6.6 x 1.5 x 1.4 cm) is supplied with the stone. This small, brick-colored model is used to create the famous slurry that facilitates the stone's action.
After use, you can rinse the surface and clean it with a soft brush. Wipe with a dry cloth, then leave to dry in a room at room temperature (keep out of the sun for faster drying).
The stone is suspended from a non-slip base with two silicone feet, to ensure stability.
Please note: the stone's dimensions may vary by a few millimeters, and its weight by a few grams - this is perfectly normal.
Find out more about the manufacturer :
Suehiro is a Japanese specialist in professional sharpening stones. He is dedicated to developing practical, long-lasting stones. To achieve this, he manages every stage in the manufacture of the stones he creates, from research and development to actual production. First, the ingredients must be mixed and stirred in large vats. Each stone is then shaped into a rectangle using a press, and left to dry for a short time. They are then fired, and a craftsman passes the stones over a grinding wheel to ensure a clean finish. Finally, quality control is carried out.
