This Suehiro Debado S 400SNE stone is created using a firing process that does not include any synthetic binder. Because of its durability, it is particularly recommended for professional use, but is also suitable for domestic use!
Slightly thinner than the other stones in the Debado range, the S series offers excellent value for money.
Its #320 grit is considered thick. It is recommended for cleaning the damaged edge of a heavily-used knife. Indeed, after many uses, the cuts dig into the edge, even microscopically, and this will create a kind of scale on the cutting edge: this is what makes it less effective. Such a stone enables you to clean up this micro-waste.
To know how to use it:
It's non-absorbent, it just needs to be moistened, which saves you time (no need to immerse it for ten minutes before use).
Little by little, you'll see a small colored sludge forming on the surface of the stone, and this is perfectly normal. This "sludge" is even essential, as it helps to sharpen the knife, so don't clean it during the sharpening process.
After use, you can rinse the surface and clean it with a soft brush. Wipe with a dry cloth, then leave to dry in a room at room temperature (keep out of direct sunlight for faster drying).
Good to know:
- The stone is attached to a white base.
- A small Nagura stone is supplied to create the famous slurry that facilitates the stone's action. As already mentioned, this reinforces the stone's abrasive power, thus increasing its effectiveness.
- A transparent box with feet is available, allowing you to stabilize the stone during use. It is removable, so you don't have to use it if you prefer to place the stone on a cloth, for example.
