Higonokami pocket knives are deeply rooted in Japanese culture, and were so popular in the 60s that all schoolchildren carried them in their pencil cases and had fun sharpening pencils with them. This knife is the work of Kanetsune Seki, a true reference in the land of the rising sun when it comes to traditional cutlery.
The blade of this small Japanese knife is both sharp and durable, as it is made from a superimposition of three "sheets" of steel, with a carbon core. This historic"San Mai" type of manufacture was once used to make katana blades.
The opening of the knife rests on the"chikiri", the lens that extends from the back of the blade. By applying pressure to this lens, you can engage the blade using just one hand.
Finally, the black steel handle gives the knife a rustic look, with the added advantage of being sturdy. What's more, the Japanese lettering engraved on both sides adds an appreciable touch of authenticity.
As carbon is oxidizable, the knife should be washed by hand and wiped directly with a soft cloth. It should not be put in the dishwasher or soaked. It's important to note that, despite careful care, a carbon knife may change color slightly over time - this is perfectly normal.
