Description

Shapton stones have proven their effectiveness

Japanese Shapton stones are top-of-the-range sharpening stones renowned for their durability and efficiency. They are available in different ranges to suit all your specific needs.

They are renowned for their relatively slow wear. Thanks to their performance, they are highly appreciated by professionals in the food industry. However, these are hard stones designed for seasoned sharpeners rather than novices. Note that their hardness is a real advantage when it comes to their lifespan: as mentioned above, the harder a stone is, the less quickly it wears out.

Features of the stones in this Glass Stone set

The Shapton Glass Stone range features stones with different grains. The stones complement each other, allowing you to achieve perfect sharpness on all your blades. All you have to do is adapt the grain to the condition of your blade.

The set presented here contains 3 stones with different grits for versatile and complete sharpening. Ranging from very thick to extremely fine grit, the set recovers the sharpness of even the most damaged blades and pushes their polishing to the max. The stones can also be used separately if required.

Thick grain 500 (29.4 micron): effective when you need to straighten the edge of a very dull blade that no longer cuts but is not chipped.

Medium fine grit 2000 (7.35 micron): this grit is perfect after the blade has passed over the #500 stone, as it allows the sharpening process to continue. The stone can also be used on its own to maintain the cutting edge of stiffer blades.

Ultra fine 16000grit (0.92 micron): 16000 grit is particularly effective on very hard blades. Its extremely fine grain gives them a razor-sharp, mirror-like finish. Only very hard steels are capable of holding such a sharp edge. This is why we advise against using it on hardness below 63 HRC.

Glass Stones are high abrasion stones, enabling you to sharpen your blades quickly. The stones are suitable for hard alloys such as Japanese Aogami steel.

The Glass Stone range includes Splash & Go sharpening stones: they don't need to go through a pre-soaking phase before use. Simply moisten them and they're ready! These stones save you time.

The stones in this set are finer than conventional water stones. That's why their aluminum oxide abrasive part is mounted on a thin tempered glass plate: this prevents them from deforming over time. Conveniently, the stones retain their original shape, remaining flat while you sharpen.

The sharpness achieved is even on your blades. Thanks to the homogeneous structure of the aluminum oxide particles, the work is done cleanly.

Stable whetstone holder

The Shapton 50300 holder is an invaluable aid when using Glass Stone. Due to the thinness of the stones, it raises them for easier use. It prevents you from banging your fingers into your work surface.

The stand has non-slip rubber feet for perfect stability. This is very practical when sharpening and moving your knife back and forth.

After use, the holder can be placed vertically to drain the stone that has been used. When your stones have been cleaned and are completely dry, place the holder horizontally to store the 3 stones in the set.
