Find out more about the manufacturer :
Suehiro is a Japanese specialist in professional sharpening stones. He is dedicated to developing practical, long-lasting stones. To achieve this, he manages every stage in the manufacture of the stones he creates, from research and development to actual production. First, the ingredients must be mixed and stirred in large vats. Each stone is then shaped into a rectangle using a press, and left to dry for a short time. They are then fired, and a craftsman passes the stones over a grinding wheel to ensure a clean finish. Finally, quality control is carried out.
Tips for using the stone :
The stone should be soaked in water for 5 to 10 minutes before use. You can reapply water to the surface of the stone during sharpening, when you feel it's necessary. You can do this directly by hand, or with a pipette for greater precision.
After a few moments' use, you'll notice a small colored sludge forming on the surface of the stone, and this is perfectly normal. This "sludge" is even essential, as it helps to sharpen the knife, so don't clean it during the process.
A small Nagura stone (approx. 6.6 x 1.5 x 1.4 cm) is supplied with the stone. This small, brick-colored model is used to create the famous slurry that facilitates the stone's action.
After use, you can rinse the surface and clean it with a soft brush. Wipe with a dry cloth, then leave to dry in a room at room temperature (keep out of the sun for faster drying).
The stone is suspended from a non-slip base with two raised feet, which provide stability when in use.
Please note: the stone's dimensions may vary by a few millimeters, and its weight by a few grams - this is perfectly normal.
